Palo Alto has been our sister city since 1980
As the Municipality of Enschede, we work together with the American city of ‘Palo Alto’ in California USA. Palo Alto has been our sister city to Enschede since 1980. As the Municipality of Enschede, we help companies and knowledge institutions from our region to make contact with companies in Silicon Valley.
Since March 2024, an exchange has been taking place at ‘Fotoclub De Zoeker Enschede’ with the Palo Alto organization platform in California. We are trying to realize future project(s) with different themes in and around the society between the two sister citie
Residents of Enschede, who are interested in exchanging knowledge and culture, can also come into contact with citizens of Palo Alto through the Municipality of Enschede. Münster and North Rhine-Westphalia also consider cooperation with the US to be very important. That is why there are joint trips to America.
In addition to the official city ties, Enschede entered into a ‘Smart City Alliance’ in 2017 with Münster, Palo Alto, Linköping (Sweden) and Heidelberg (Germany). The purpose of this alliance, of which little has yet been revealed, is to exchange knowledge about developing into a ‘smart’ (data-driven) city.
